Guidelines for creating a PDF file from Indesign CS

Adobe InDesign CS is the page layout of choice for many designers. InDesign documents with transparency and spot colours don't always print correctly. Exporting to a PDF file using these settings below will ensure the file output will be accurate.
Follow these guidelines to ensure faster turnaround and

Create a Transparency Flattener Preset:
You can download this Transparency Flatterner Preset or in InDesign's menu, go to Edit > Transparency Flattener Preset.
Create a new preset and input the following settings:

Name your preset and save it.
Create a PDF Export Preset:
You can download this PDF Export Preset. If you have Indesign CS3, use this file. If you have CS or CS2 with no transparency, use this file. If you have CS or CS2 with transparency, use this file. Or create your own - in InDesign's menu, go to File > Adobe PDF Preset > Define.
Create a new preset with Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) compatibility and the following settings:




Transparency Flattener should be set to the Preset that was created and saved earlier.
Name your PDF Export preset and save it.
Export PDF file:
In InDesign's menu, go to File > Export.
Select Export format: PDF. Name the file and browse to your target location to save it.
In the next screen, select the Adobe PDF Preset that you created above and export the file.
You now have a press-ready PDF file that you should open and check to make sure everything is as it should be before you upload the file to us.
